New Camp at Mt. Hermon: Come Along With Me Weekend
Submitted by Jennifer (Anderson) Jensen
Camp Mt. Hermon is proud to announce a new camp beginning this summer! It is appropriately titled “Come Along With Me” Weekend Camp. Director of the camp, Dalene Ward, said, “It is a chance for children to spend quality time with an adult in their life.” Come Along With Me Weekend Camp will be for children who have finished kindergarten through 2nd grade and an adult over 21 who would like to accompany them. It is a time that the child and adult can worship, learn, play and work together.
The idea was set in motion during last year’s camping program when talk began of how children can learn about camp before they attend Pre-Junior camp by themselves. For many kids, Pre-Junior camp is the first time that they are away from home by themselves for an extended period of time. We wanted kids to have an opportunity to “learn the ways of camp” so that when they are old enough to go to Pre-Junior camp, they will be prepared for the experience.
Dalene Ward is an Early Childhood Special Education teacher during the school year and co-manages Camp Mt. Hermon with her husband, Steve Ward, during the summers. As talk increased about the new camp being added, we were convinced Dalene was the person for the job. Dalene thinks this camp will give kids a good opportunity to experience camp before they venture out on their own to Pre-Junior camp. She is excited and has begun preparations for the first year of the Come Along With Me Weekend Camp.
The camp will start on Friday, June 29 with registration beginning at 7:00 p.m. and will conclude on Sunday, July 1 by 1:30 p.m. The cost is $50 per pair. If an adult chooses to bring more than one child, the cost is $25 for the additional child. Children must have completed kindergarten through 2nd grade. The adult accompanying the child must be 21 years of age or older and same sex of the child is not required. Each adult may bring no more than two children so that each child has the opportunity for as much quality time as possible. Each adult/child team will participate in all activities together. They will eat together, play together, do chores together, sleep in a cabin together, worship together, and even learn together. If you have any questions about the Come Along With Me Weekend Camp, please contact director, Dalene Ward at (402) 476-8350 or dward@lps.org.
